The state Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge discussing with Magistrate Saidu AbdulKareem while the Permanent Secretary, Dr Abubakar Ayinla and others listen during the monthly Sanitation exercise held across the state, on Saturday.

The Kwara State Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge, has issued a stern warning to environmental sanitation offenders, declaring that anyone caught violating the monthly exercise will face the full extent of the law.

Speaking in Ilorin during the monthly sanitation exercise conducted across the state, Buge expressed dismay at the high number of violators.

She revealed that nearly 150 offenders were apprehended by the Task Force Team monitoring the exercise and were subsequently charged to mobile courts at various locations

“It is disheartening that despite extensive sensitization and advocacy across print, electronic, and social media platforms, some individuals still flout the law.

“Okada riders, tricycle operators, and market women were among those who illegally carried on with their activities during the exercise,” she said.

Buge explained that advocacy efforts typically begin on the Monday preceding the sanitation day and continue through Saturday morning to ensure awareness. “Yet, some people deliberately disregard the law. This behavior is unacceptable, and violators will be dealt with within the ambit of the law,” she reaffirmed.

Despite these challenges, the commissioner expressed satisfaction with the overall success of the exercise and pledged continued efforts to achieve full compliance from residents.

She reassured the public that the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq remains committed to maintaining a clean and hygienic environment to promote the health and well-being of all Kwara residents.
